Violent suspect re-arrested after escaping from hospital

During January 2016 Sandile Ndlovu, aged 32, had been arrested after a shootout with police. The incident took place in the St Chads area, Ladysmith and he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle at the time.

The stolen vehicle was hijacked from its owner in Mooiriver during the same month. After his arrest the injured Sandile escaped from the hospital where he was receiving treatment. A case of escaping from lawful custody was opened for investigation.

Detectives from the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) continued tracing the suspect and yesterday, 10 May 2016 their efforts paid dividends. Two dedicated members from the VIS traced the suspect and located him in the Estcourt area.

He was re-arrested and will face charges of carjacking, possession of stolen property as well as escaping from lawful custody.

He is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
