On 12 December 2018, the Durban High Court sentenced Amos Ngobeni (30) to 10 life terms and 235 years imprisonment. On 10 December 2018, Ngobeni was convicted on 49 counts of cases including rape, kidnapping, robbery and burglary.

The Inanda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit worked around the clock pursuing a suspect who terrorised women in various areas including Inanda, Phoenix and Verulam. Their dedicated interventions yielded positive results when they arrested a suspect believed to be in his thirties at Amaoti. Police had gathered intelligence on his movements and an operation was initiated which led to his arrest.

He is wanted for at least 19 reported cases of rape at Inanda, Phoenix and Verulam stretching back to as far as 2011 where he has been linked by means of DNA evidence. It is alleged that the suspect would approached his victims on the roads or in their homes and threaten them with a knife or a firearm before he raped them. In some instances he is accused of forcing men to rape their girlfriends or tying up the men and raping their girlfriends in front of them.

We are also appealing to other victims who might have been abused by the suspect but have never opened cases, to please come forward. Our detectives will ensure that all the necessary evidence is brought to court for a successful prosecution.
