On 3 November 2019 at 01:30, the body of Siphiwe Manci (19) was found with a stab wound to his chest at his home in Zwelisha. He was certified dead at the scene by paramedics. It is alleged that Manci was stabbed following an argument and a case of murder was reported to Verulam SAPS.

On the same day at 09:00, a report was received by police of a man that was assaulted to death at Zwelisha. On arrival at the scene, police found the body of Siphamandla Mkhwanazi (40) with assault wounds. Information unfolded that Mkhwanazi had stabbed Manci to death.

Police immediately pursued the information obtained at the scene and two suspects aged 29 and 41 were arrested for the murder of Mkhwanazi. They are expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula condemned the culture of vigilantism that is manifesting in certain areas.

“We once again wish to make our stance towards communities taking the law into their own hands very clear. Those that resort to committing acts of vigilantism must expect to face the full might of the law. There is no place in society for vigilantes and we will not tolerate those who have no respect for the rule of law,”.
