A 36 year old suspect is under police guard at a local hospital due to the quick response of police officers from Chatsworth Police Station. It is alleged that on Saturday, 31 August 2019, the suspect had accosted a family at gunpoint at their home in Welbedacht East, where he demanded cash.

The victims tried to overpower the suspect resulting in one of the victims being shot in the stomach with another sustaining slight injury. One of the victims who underwent emergency surgery is recuperating at hospital. Police seized a pistol with the serial number erased. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if the firearm was used in the commission of other crimes.

The suspect will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrates Court in due course on charges of attempted murder and attempted house robbery.

The Station Commander of SAPS Chatsworth, Brigadier Kevin James appreciates the efforts made by the team at SAPS Chatsworth whose swift response resulted in the apprehension of the suspect. There have been reported robberies with the same modus operandi at Welbedacht East.
