Vandals throw rock at Pinetown motorist’s car in attempted hijacking

A motorist was lucky to escape an attempted hijacking uninjured when suspects threw a rock at her vehicle while she was driving in Pinetown.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the woman was driving along Caversham Road at around 6.10am of Friday when suspects threw a rock at her vehicle.

“The suspects demanded that she stop driving and they then threw a rock at her vehicle which smashed the right back window,” Mathios said. “Fortunately, she was not injured during the incident and managed to drive to a nearby garage from where she called us for help.”

Mathios said a Blue Security officer escorted her to Pinetown police station where she opened a case of attempted hijacking.

In a separate incident on Friday, armed robbers held up Sea View residents at gunpoint and ransacked their Pioneer Crescent home. The incident occurred at around 8.50pm. “The suspects fled with jewellery, a television and a laptop in the resident’s vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported,” Mathios said.

Bellair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
