Two wanted Sundumbili murderers tracked down in Durban

On 7 January 2021, ILembe Crime Intelligence, the ILembe Task Team and Sundumbili police officers embarked on an operation in the KwaDukuza and surrounding areas.

They received information about a murder suspect hiding in a flat in the Durban Central CBD. They proceeded to the flat situated on the Victoria Embankment where a 29-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. During his arrest, he was found in possession of suspected stolen items including two laptops, USB’s, 25 bank cards, seven bank cards, five SASSA cards, payslips, passports and Identity Documents.

Another 43-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Sundumbili. The suspects have been on the run since September 2020 after they alleged killed a 33-year-old man in Sundumbili Township.

It is alleged that on 7 September 2020 at 21:30, Andile Sabelo Dakane (33) was shot and killed by two suspects while he was on Somuhle Road next to a local clinic. Dakane sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injury. A murder case was opened at the Sundumbili police station for investigation.

The investigation steered the police to the arrest of the two suspects. They were charged with murder and possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 January 2021.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the police officers for making a breakthrough and arresting the suspects. “Justice will always prevail and we are pleased with the dedication displayed by different police units in making sure that criminals face the law. We hope the family will now find closure knowing the suspects are behind the bars,” he said.
