Two wanted CIT suspects and an elusive mastermind have been killed in a shootout with KZN police in Ndwedwe .
They had escaped arrest during a previous encounter and attempted to do so again by allegedly opening fire on officers.
The mastermind was behind a series of CIT robberies, and remained on the run for years.
The pair was found by a specialised team, led by the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team and DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, together with the Provincial TRT, PMB K9, Provincial Forensics Leads Unit, Metro Police Special Operations Directorate, SAPS CI eThekwini District, Fidelity SIU, Hawks Protection Services and Magma Security & Investigations.
None of the members were wounded in the exchange.
Two guns have been recovered at the scene.
