The Empangeni Tactical Response Team embarked on an operation on 20 December 2019, at 01:30. The operation was conducted at Dukuduku area in Mtubatuba.
The team went to a house in Oweni where a search was conducted. Upon searching the house, two unlicensed firearms were recovered. A total of 26 assortment of ammunition was also confiscated. A 72 year old suspect was placed under arrest.
He appeared on 20 December 2019 in the Mtubatuba Magistrates’ Court.
“This arrest shows the dedication by police officers in eradicating the proliferation of illegal firearms. We will continue with our positive approach this festive season,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
