On January 11, 2017 at about 02:00 members of King Cetswayo Cluster Crime Intelligence, Empangeni Sub Office and members of Northern KZN Project arrested two suspects aged between 36 to 51 for possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition.

It is alleged that the members were conducting an operation at Saku area, Mahlabathini following information they have received regarding unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Upon searching, the members recovered two unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistols with their serial numbers filed off together with 13 live rounds of ammunition. Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. During investigation, it was established that these firearms were coming from KwaMashu Hostel. Both suspects are due to appear before Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court today

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the members for their sterling efforts in apprehending these suspects. “We will continue with our operations and trace those who are still in possession of unlicensed firearms,’ he said.
