On Tuesday evening, the 20th June at 17h48 Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit was called to a shooting incident on the N2 near the Umkomaas River Bridge. Exact detail to the incident will remain a subject for police comment.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found a man in the back seat of a car that had sustained gunshot wound and died before or arrival.
Another man believed to be a suspect in an armed robbery, was found lying in the veld about five hundred metres from the car with life threatening injuries.
Paramedics worked fervently for some time to try to stabilise the man.
Tragically, despite all their effort he was declared dead at the scene. With all the police and emergency services vehicle at the scene, the traffic backed up for some distance.
