Two Port Dunford murder accused sentenced to life imprisonment

On 11 October 2018, the Esikhaleni Regional Court convicted and sentenced Sipho Kweyama, 52, and his friend Dumisani Mthembu, 53, to life imprisonment for the killing of Thulani Mkhwanazi (34). The accused alleged that Mkhwanazi came to his place of residence in KwaNdaya, Esikhaleni area and confessed to stealing his firearm.

Instead of reporting the matter to the police both accused decided to take the law into their own hands by driving with Mkhwanazi to Port Dunford, Esikhaleni where they assaulted him. He sustained multiples injuries and was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A murder case was opened at Esikhaleni police station for investigation and both accused were arrested and charged.

They made several court appearances during their incarceration until they were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
