The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Kwazulu Natal, Major General Lesetja Senona applauded the investigating team following the conviction handed down to two police sergeants, Thulani Patric Dlangalala (45) and Musawenkosi Mbusi Mabaso (45) on Monday, 1 March 2021.

The duo were arrested on the 9 May 2018, by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team that swiftly intercepted a transaction upon receiving information about corrupt police officers demanding R7500-00 gratification to release a suspect.

The police sergeants were tasked to fetch a wanted suspect sought for a reckless and negligent driving who had been arrested at King Shaka International Airport on arrival.

They released the suspect after receiving R4500-00 from his next of keen and demanded the remaining R3000-00 balance. A waylay investigation was put in place to pay the outstanding balance and the police sergeants were arrest in possession of the cash. The duo was release on warning on their first court appearance on the 10 May 2018.

They were convicted by the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court for corruption.

The court granted them R2000-00 bail each following their conviction and are expected to be back in court on the 19 April 2021 for sentencing.
