Two Morningside Armed Robbers Arrested

Two Morningside Armed Robbers Arrested

Two suspects were successfully apprehended and serious crime averted because of quick responses by an alert cleaner and Berea SAPS on Monday morning in Morningside.

“The arrests followed an incident where an alert domestic worker spotted four men entering a complex in Morningside. One of the men was holding a firearm,” Blue Security tactical ambassador for the Durban Central Area said. “The employee immediately raced to a nearby residence and raised the alarm. A call was made to the 10111 emergency number and, luckily, a SAPS Umbilo unit was nearby,” he said.

The four suspects had meanwhile made their way to the third floor of the block of flats and confronted one of the elderly residents. “When the intruders realised that SAPS had arrived they attempted to flee by jumping onto the tarmac two floors below and escaping through a side gate with SAPS, neighbourhood watch and other security providers in hot pursuit,” he said.

“Two of the suspects were arrested by SAPS whilst the others escaped into the network. The Victim Support Unit for Umbilo was summoned to the scene to administer support,” he said. “Fortunately no shots were fired, no injuries were sustained and nothing was stolen in the incident. A case of armed robbery is under investigation,” he said. Blue Security and other responders remained in the area on actively visible patrols.
