The National Commissioner of Police, General Khehla John Sitole has welcomed the arrest of three men in connection with the cold and callous killing of two Durban Metro Police officers.
On Monday, 20 May 2019 60 year old Inspector Dladla and 37 year old Constable Mhlanga were gunned down while on duty at Marshall Road, Geneva Mhambayi area before their service pistols were taken from them.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (The Hawks) were equal to the investigative task after they together with a team, within 72 hours, identified and arrested the three suspects.
The National Commissioner has first praised the team for the multidisciplinary approach by the Hawks, Durban Serious Organised Crime unit, Metro Police and Crime Intelligence proving that there is greater effectiveness in such an approach as opposed to working in independently.
On Monday, the two Metro officers were on duty when they were ambushed whilst they were inside their vehicle. The suspects made off with their firearms.
“I am very pleased with the efficiency with which this matter has been handled”, said General Sitole.
“The team that has been working on this case must be applauded for their tireless efforts”, added General Sitole.
