Two men to appear in court for Greytown farm attack and murder
Randfontein farm murder – four suspects arrested

Two men, aged 18, will appear in the Greytown Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder and house robbery following the killing of a local farmer this week, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

“Greytown detectives worked tirelessly around the clock in making sure that the alleged suspects who were involved in the killing of Sarel David Theron are brought to book,” Lt-Col Thulani Zwane said on Sunday.

“Their hard work yielded positive results when they cracked the case and arrested two suspects for the murder and house robbery. Goods such as [a] laptop, cellphone, and other belongings taken during the murder and house robbery were also recovered from the suspects,” he said.

It was alleged that 49-year-old Theron’s body was found at his house on a farm in Seven Oaks at about 9am on Tuesday, July 5 after he failed to report for duty on Monday.

He was found by one of the farm managers and police were called. He had been stabbed and it was believed he had been strangled as well. A laptop, cellphone, and other goods were taken from the house.

Theron was last seen on Sunday, July 2 at his house. A case of murder and house robbery was opened by Greytown police station. Detectives started their investigation that led to the arrest within a week after the men allegedly committed the crime, Zwane said.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner Bhekinkosi Langa praised the members for working hard in apprehending the culprits.

”The arrested suspects will be profiled to check if they can be linked to other house robberies reported in Greytown and surrounding areas. I also appeal to the community not to buy stolen goods and those who will be found [with] stolen goods will be prosecuted,” he said.
