The Madadeni Regional Court sentenced a 40 year old man to life imprisonment for raping his niece over a period. The victim (16) was staying together with the accused at Madadeni area when she was raped as from December 2014 until 2015.
The accused would threatened to kill the victim should she report the matter to anyone. In January 2015, the victim was brave enough to stand up and reported the matter to the police. A case of rape was immediately opened and the accused was arrested the same day. He was taken to court and bail was successfully opposed.
Yesterday, 28 June 2018, Empangeni Regional Court sentenced Mxolisi Khumalo (20) to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 13 year old victim.
The victim went to a nearby shop to buy chips and on her arrival, the accused called her to his room where she was raped. A rape case was opened at Empangeni police station where Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit took over investigation.
The accused was immediately arrested and charged for rape.
