On 16 April 2020, an operation was conducted by Durban Central SAPS with Metro police on Old Dutch and Warwick Avenue.

Whilst the operation was in progress, police officers pulled over a taxi with two occupants. Upon searching the taxi, police recovered an unlicensed firearm; TV set; duvet covers; vehicle battery as well as assorted clothing. Two suspects aged 25 and 37 were arrested for being in illegal possession of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen property.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspects are appearing at the Durban Magistrates Court.

“Citizens can expect a heightened police presence as our operations are on-going. We will ensure that all those involved in criminal activities are curtailed,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula as he welcomed the arrest.
