Two hit men Philani Ncebo Mthethwa (22) and Zandiswa Mncedisi Ndlela (23), appeared before KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on 16 February 2021, on two counts of murder and the case was remanded to 22 February 2021 for a formal bail application.

On 21 November 2020 at 20:30, KwaMsane police attended to a murder at Nkolonkotho area in Mtubatuba where a couple was fatally wounded by unknown people. On arrival they found the body of Zile Joyce Gumede (59) and her husband Mfanazi Gumede (57) with multiple gunshot wounds on the body and head.

The couple were at their home when two unknown suspects attacked them and opened fire at them. Mfanazi attempted to flee the scene but was shot twice on the back and head and his wife was shot three times in the forehead. The couple was declared dead at the scene. Charges of murder were opened at KwaMsane SAPS for investigation.

Dedicated detectives from KwaMsane made a break through when they arrested Mthethwa at his hide out in Tembisa, Gauteng. The second suspect Ndlela was traced and arrested in Mtubatuba.
