Two businessmen were kidnapped during a hijacking that occurred on the M27 near Ivy Street in Southridge today.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after receiving a call from a witness reporting the hijacking. The caller stated that four armed suspects approached the two businessmen and forced them into a Mercedes Benz GLE 250 before they sped off in the direction of Umdloti.

Reaction Officers began searching for the vehicle which was seen heading through an unpaved road near Mount Moreland. Officers also managed to track down the family of the driver and it was established that the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device from Tracker.

The tracking unit on the vehicle was activated and was emitting signals from the Inanda area. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the area and the vehicle was recovered abandoned by a Tracker Recovery Officer and members of the South African Police Service.

While on the scene it was established that both the victims were dropped off by the suspects in the vicinity of the Umgeni River. The managed to flag down a passerby who assisted them by contacting the Police For assistance.

Both the victims were not injured during the hijacking.
