The arrests occurred at a farm location where suspects were actively engaged in purifying gold-bearing materials. Law enforcement officials intervened as part of a targeted operation against illicit mining operations and associated criminal activity in the region.

During the operation, authorities recovered a significant quantity of equipment and prohibited items, including:

– Thirty-two (32) blasting cartridges
– Five (5) detonators
– Orange detonating cord
– Two (2) 9mm Canik pistols
– Forty-four (44) live 9mm rounds
– Metal Phenduka (illicit gold processing equipment)
– Two (2) generators
– Two (2) jackhammers
– Three (3) bowsaws
– Six (6) 4-pound hammers

All twelve suspects have been taken into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 May 2026, to face charges related to explosives possession, illegal mining, and immigration violations.
