Traditional healer handed 3 life sentences for rape of girl (15)

A traditional healer was sentenced to three life imprisonment on three counts of rape. He was sentenced on 28 April 2021 by the Ulundi Regional Court after the court heard how he took advantage of a 15-year-old girl and raped her.

On 12 December 2018, a 15-year-old girl was taken to a traditional healer in Mahlabathini area by her parents to seek traditional healing. The traditional healer was trusted by the parents of the victim with the hope of healing the girl but was brutally raped repeatedly by the man they trusted.

Sfiso Emmanuel Mngadi (40) started raping the repeatedly and would record everything on his cellphone.

The victim’s aunt went to the traditional healer last year and she caught the accused busy viewing the recording on his cellphone last year. That is when a case of rape was reported and registered at Mahlabathini SAPS.

The docket was transferred to Ulundi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused was placed under arrest and tried in court.
