At approximately 20:00 hours on 10 October 2025, the Durban Metro Police Service Task Team received intelligence regarding a stolen Toyota Fortuner reportedly taken along Umngeni Road during a soccer event.
The last signal from the vehicle tracker was detected on the M4 towards Umlazi, prompting an extensive search in the area’s identified hot spots after it was discovered that the tracker had been jammed.
During the operation, our Crime Intelligence Unit discovered that the vehicle was in Umlazi, and officers proceeded to the area. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned between informal structures in Umlazi C-Section, where it was in the process of being stripped.
The vehicle was safely recovered and handed over to Umlazi SAPS for further processing and safekeeping.
This recovery demonstrates the efficiency, coordination, and intelligence-led policing approach of the Durban Metro Police Service.
