Toti Tactical Officer chases down wanted armed robbers

A Blue Security tactical officer and members of the SAPS arrested three robbers as they fled on the N2 from the scene of an armed robbery in Umkomaas yesterday.

Blue Security’s Amanzimtoti tactical ambassador Eugene Engelbrecht said the officer heard a call for assistance that was networked by the police on the local Community Crime Prevention Organisation radio and he stepped into gear to apprehend the suspects.

“Our officer received the information that the police were chasing the suspects’ vehicle on the N2 following an armed robbery and that they seemed to have lost visual of the vehicle on the highway. He immediately mobilised and went to wait on the Moss Kolnik onramp in the hope of spotting the vehicle,” Engelbrecht said.

“Sure enough the suspects’ vehicle came speeding past him and he gave chase along the N2. He chased the vehicle to the Isipingo area where he managed to push the vehicle off the road and effect the arrest of three suspects. Members of the Isipingo SAPS arrived to assist with the arrest and took over at the scene,” Engelbrecht said.

Engelbrecht said two flat screen televisions were recovered from the vehicle and it is understood that the suspects apparently disposed of their firearms as they fled the scene of the crime. Isipingo SAPS, members of the CCPO and ET attended the scene of the crime.

Engelbrecht commended the tactical officer for his quick thinking and bravery during the arrest.
“We are committed to working closing with the police and the community to ensure that we provide effective support and resources to assist in the fight against crime. We hope that this latest arrest sends a strong message to criminals that crime will not be tolerated,” he said. Engelbrecht encouraged residents to get involved in the fight against crime and to always report any suspicious activity to their local security firm and the police for investigation.
