Toti resident robbed by gunmen after arriving home from airport

An Amanzimtoti resident, who may have been followed all the way home from King Shaka International Airport, was robbed by a gang wielding firearms and rifles the moment he pulled up outside his home.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said four suspects robbed the resident outside his house in Raymond Road in St Winifried when he arrived from the airport earlier today. “The gang arrived in a white sedan and held up the resident at gunpoint, pulling him out of his vehicle. They robbed him of a Samsung Note 5, a wallet containing R1 000, a bag containing personal documents and his vehicle keys. Fortunately, the resident was not injured during the incident,” Mathios said.

SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Mathios advised motorists to be vigilant to ensure that they are not being followed, especially after visiting the bank or an ATM. “Gangs have repeatedly targeted victims outside banks and at ATM’s from where they have then followed them home or to their business premises. The modus operandi is usually to strike when the victim enters the parking lot or driveway of their business premises or home.”

Mathios advised motorists to pay special attention to the vehicles travelling behind them before reaching their destination to ensure there is no suspicious vehicle following behind. “If you notice that a vehicle has been tailing you for some time across the suburb and are concerned that you might be a target, take a few turns away from your property and contact your security company to alert them to the situation or drive to your nearest police station for help,” Mathios said.
