KwaMashu Visible Policing members conducted an operation aimed at ridding their policing area of unlicensed firearms.

Police arrested three suspects aged between 33 and 34 and seized three firearms with 13 rounds of ammunition. All suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court.

A 33 year old suspect was arrested in K-section with a revolver and a round of ammunition in his possession. Police proceeded to KwaMashu hostel, A section where they found another 33 year old suspect with a 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition at Isivumelwano Road. When police were on their way to the police station in E-section, Malandela Road they searched a 34 year old male who was also found with a pistol and seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was immediately arrested.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the police on the recovery of firearms.

“These firearms will be subjected for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in our pending cases or other serious and violent crimes in the country,” he said.
