An intensive investigation by Harding detectives led to the arrest of three murder suspects at Klerksdorp with the assistance of police in the North West province. The suspects fled from KwaZulu-Natal after the incident in February this year. They will be brought to Harding police station where they will be charged for murder, attempted murder and kidnapping.

On 20 February 2017 at 01:00, Thembi Memela, 37, was asleep at her home in Machi location, Harding when unknown men allegedly kidnapped her from home together with her 14-year-old daughter. The suspects forced Memela and her daughter into her vehicle boot and drove to a riverbank. They allegedly took her bank cards and purchased petrol. They then poured petrol over the victims and set them alight. The daughter managed to flee and jump into the water where she swam to the other side of the river. Her mother burnt to death.

The daughter managed to find the police station and reported the matter to the police. A case of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping was opened at the Harding police station for investigation. Last month, one of the suspects was arrested and charged. He is in custody and will be joined by his three accomplices. The suspects will appear at the Harding Magistrates Court soon.
