Police officers from the Eshowe and K9 Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation searching for a rape, burglary, robbery and attempted murder suspect who is alleged to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspect (28) was located at KwaMfana in Eshowe where he was arrested after he was found in possession of a pistol with ammunition.

The operation emanates from an incident that allegedly occurred during September 2018 where four pupils aged between 15 and 17 years were attacked whilst coming from school. It is alleged that the pupils from one of the schools at Mbongolwane area studied until late and when they left to their homesteads, passing through the sugarcane fields, the suspect emerged and raped three of them at gunpoint.

The fourth pupil managed to flee. A case of rape was opened at Mbongolwane police station and the docket was assigned to Eshowe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation. The suspect was arrested and charged on three counts of rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He appeared at the Inkanyezi Magistrates Court on 16 January 2019 where he was remanded into custody until 22 January 2019 for further investigation. Police investigations are still continuing to link the suspect with robbery, attempted murder and other pending cases in the Eshowe area.
