Three senior officials from Abaqulusi District Municipality, Maria Buyisile Mabaso (58), Nkosikhona Mdlalose (48), and Zakhele Buthelezi (43) appeared at the Vryheid Magistrates’ Court today following their arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigating unit for alleged corruption.
The trio were arrested on 13 December 2018, in a sting operation when the Hawks acted on a tip off implicating them in a payment of a bribe to a member of another political party.
The three were caught in the act of offering a R20 000 bribe to the said official.
All three have been granted R7 500 bail each and they are expected back in court on 16 January 2019.
