Three people were injured following a shooting at the Waterloo Taxi Rank in the Verulam CBD on Tuesday 18 December 2018. At approximately 13:45 Reaction Unit South Africa received multiple calls from the public reporting a shooting in progress.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival found two individuals shot in the leg. A third person was allegedly shot multiple times and was transported to hospital privately prior to the arrival of RUSA Members.

According to witnesses a white VW Fox stopped along the R102 outside the taxi rank. Two males alighted from the vehicle and opened fire into the taxi rank. A taxi conductor was shot multiple times in the chest and two bystanders were also injured.

The gunmen then fled the scene. Several spent 9mm and .45 ACP cartridges were recovered at the scene.

The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
