There were three businesses targeted by armed robbers within 48 hours, this past weekend. They held up security guards and fled with valuables such as computers and cellphones.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of armed suspects held up a security guard at a business premises in Westmead at around 6am on Saturday. “Four armed suspects held up the security guard at gunpoint and forced open the front door and gate to the premises. They then drove a grey Toyota Corolla onto the property and loaded four computers and two laptops into the vehicle and fled the scene. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said. Pinetown SAPS were alerted to the scene of the crime.

In a second armed robbery, a gang of armed suspects gained entry onto a business premises in Mobeni at around 11.45pm on Sunday. “Three suspects jumped over the fence to gain entry onto the property and held up the security guard at gunpoint, before tying him up. One of the suspects then remained with the security guard while the others climbed onto the roof of the business premises. The suspects then climbed through the roof, which they damaged, to gain entry into the ceiling,” Mathios said.

“The business’s alarm activated and our officer responded to the scene, disturbing the suspects, who managed to flee when they realised that he had arrived at the property. Cellphones and keys were reported stolen. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said. Montclair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

In a third incident, a gang of alleged robbers who had circled a business premises in Umhlanga on Saturday turned and fled when they realised that a customer had spotted them. The incident occurred at around 10.45pm. “Four suspects arrived at the business premises in a white Toyota Hilux and they took up positions around the property. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm,” Mathios said. “When the suspects noticed that a customer had spotted them they jumped back in their vehicle and fled the scene,” he said.
