Three suspects aged between 30 and 40 were arrested for fraud at KwaDukuza on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the detectives were conducting an operation at Kwadukuza Central Business District because of high incidents of alleged card swapping at the Capitec ATM. He said the officers saw a suspicious white Toyota double cap and two men were at the ATM.

Zwane said when the members tried to approach the vehicle, the two men jumped into the vehicle and speed off, they chased them and they were caught opposite Shaka monument in Kwadukuza.

“ATM cards of different banks were seized from the suspects and they were positively linked with other cases of fraud in other areas,” said Zwane.

He said a case of fraud was opened at KwaDukuza police station for further investigation and the arrested suspects will appear at KwaDukuza Magistrate’s court on Monday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bhekinkosi Langa applauded the KwaDukuza detectives for their ever alertness and vigilant that led to the arrest of the suspects.

“I also warn the credit card holders to keep their cards and secret pins in a safe place and they must take extra pre-cautions when they are using their cards at any ATM machines,” he said.

“Do not distracted by any stranger who offer to help you at ATM machine and also remember to report your card to the bank if it has been swallowed by machine as criminals use any tricks in getting g your cards.”
