A large part of the Durban Harbor’s upgrading project has been terminated due to alleged tender fraud. In addition, there is apparently also collusion and conspiracy between Transnet employees and the suppliers.

An independent forensic investigation is currently underway at the companies to whom tenders were granted.

An Italian company, CMC di Ravenna and CMI Emateni are among those under the magnifying glass. Philani Mavundla, the former Mayor of Greytown, is co director of CMI and the outstanding debt of about R100m to SARS is also being investigated.

CMC is currently in Italy dealing with an insolvency application in the Ravenna Court.
