Tenacious Tactical Officer Chases Down Glen Hills Housebreaker on Foot

An early-morning chase on foot by a Blue Security tactical officer in Glen Hills, north of Durban, resulted in the successful arrest of a housebreaking suspect yesterday morning.

“Our dedicated Tactical Team in the area responded swiftly at around 4.30am after a community-group message was circulated of suspicious early-morning pedestrian activity on Rinaldo Road,” said Blue Security Tactical Ambassador for Umbilo and Durban North, Darrel Moodley.

“When our Tactical Team confronted the two men and questioned them on the contents of the bags they were carrying, the suspects dropped the bags and fled on foot,” Moodley said.

“A chase on foot ensued with our Tactical Team member successfully apprehending one suspect. The other suspect evaded capture after disappearing into an informal settlement nearby,” Moodley said. Items recovered included various power and hand tools, a tool box, fan and clothing.

“Further investigations revealed that a housebreaking had occurred in a nearby street. Access to the property had been gained through a garage window which had been forced open,” Moodley said. “The housebreaking suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS where he is currently in custody pending further investigations,” Moodley said.

“Ensuring fully-operative security systems, being informed of criminal activity in one’s neighbourhood via community messaging systems and being alert to and acting on unusual activity in the area all plays a vital part in bringing perpetrators to book. Lockdown regulations are not deterring criminals. One needs to be on guard at all times,” Moodley said.
