An 18-year-old student was injured this morning (Tuesday) after being struck by a Toyota Quantum while on her way to school along Garland Street in Temple Valley – KZN.
The teenager and her sister encountered a fully grown Rottweiler that had escaped from a nearby property. The dog allegedly charged toward the sisters, prompting them to flee across the road in an attempt to avoid being attacked.
While one (1) female managed to cross safely, the other stumbled and fell onto the roadway. A Toyota Quantum, already travelling in the same direction was unable to stop in time and ran over the student with one tyre before halting.
The dog’s owner managed to secure the animal, stating that it likely escaped through a hole in the fence line. He thereafter assisted the injured female to his residence.
Paramedics from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called and provided medical assistance before transporting the student to hospital.
She sustained injuries to her face, back, hands, and legs.
