Strong teamwork by a Blue Security armed response officer, a Crestholme resident and the police led to the arrest of a suspect who is allegedly wanted by the police for several crimes.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a resident spotted the suspect walking in Jeanne Howes Place at around 11.30am and alerted the security company to the scene.
“The suspect had previously been arrested earlier this month for stealing a cellphone from a property in Riverview Road, after community members took him in and provided him with a meal. Our officer questioned him and when the police arrived they recognised him as a suspect they had been seeking, and who was allegedly linked to several cases of theft. Police arrested him and took him into custody to the Hillcrest Police Station,” Mathios said.
One of the cases he is allegedly linked to is the theft of gas bottles from a property in Hooper Road.
In another arrest, a Blue Security armed response officer apprehended a suspect in Glenwood and recovered stolen goods yesterday.
Mathios said a resident spotted the suspect on the roof of a garden cottage in ZK Matthews Road in broad daylight at around 2.50pm, and alerted the company to the scene.
“Our officer responded and tracked down the suspect who had fled to Stranack Road. He arrested him and escorted him back to the resident’s premises,” Mathios said. “The officer recovered a wood plank cutting machine, which the suspect had in his possession. The suspect was handed over to members of the Umbilo SAPS who attended the scene of the crime.”
Suspect arrested by CCPO in Amanzimtoti.
In a separate incident in Amanzimtoti this morning, a Community Crime Prevention Organisation officer arrested a suspect after he attempted to steal a metal fence from a property in Umdoni Road at around 9.55am today.
“A resident spotted the suspect and he fled the scene. The CCPO officer arrested him in Brisco Road,” Mathios said.
