Teacher Stabs Student Verulam – KwaZulu Natal

Reaction Unit South Africa

On October 27, 2016 at approximately 14:35 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to a Primary School in Verulam after receiving reports of a child being stabbed by an educator.

Upon arrival the 7 year old boy was found seated in the reception area. His mother explained that due to the Grade 1 learner not performing academically his teacher assaulted him repeatedly on his head. The child had a pencil in his hand resulting in it lodging and breaking off in his ear. Teachers at the school claimed that the child may have been stabbed by another learner however this could not be confirmed.

Upon examination the tip of the pencil was found lodged deep in the child’s ear canal. He was transported privately to a medical facility to remove the foreign object.

The following comment was posted on social media regarding this incident, “I guess all those that are defending the actions of the teacher are teaching in the same school. My cousin works at the school and told me that the incident really happened, the principal and the teachers dragged the child into the office and attempted to bribe the mother so that she would not call the police. Because the child is poor and black does not give the Indian teacher the right to cover up the incident.”
