The Pietermaritzburg Regional Court sentenced Sbonelo Ngcobo (22) to a total of 40 years’ imprisonment for two counts of rape. It is alleged on 27 December 2014, at 21:45, a 32 year old woman was at her place of residence at Taylors Halt when the accused entered.

He demanded cash and cellphones. When the victim informed him that she does not have cash, she was threatened to be stabbed with a shoe needle and was then raped. A case of rape was opened at Taylors Halt SAPS and it was transferred to the Plessislaer Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The accused fled the area after committing the offence and was on the run since then.

On 20 December 2015 at 02:45 the same accused allegedly raped a 69 year old woman at Taylors Halt. It is alleged that the victim was at home when she found the accused seated in the sitting room. Sbonelo grabbed the victim and raped her. A case of rape was opened and the accused was arrested on the same day. Bail was opposed at court and the accused was kept behind the bars until his sentence.
