A Sydenham teenager sustained knife wounds when he got into a scuffle with an armed robber during a home invasion, yesterday afternoon.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the gang of armed suspects arrived at the scene in white Toyota Avanza. The incident occurred at around 12.45pm and was circulated on local neighbourhood watch WhatsApp groups. “A gang of five armed robbers gained entry onto the property through a sliding door and held up a 17 year old teenager, a domestic worker and a painter, who was working at the property,” he said.
“The suspects held up the teenager and workers at gunpoint. The teenager sustained minor knife wounds to his arm and face during a scuffle with a suspect and one of the suspects slapped the domestic worker on the back of her head as the gang fled the scene. Rescue Care paramedics arrived and treated the injured at the scene of the crime,” Mathios said. The suspects fled the scene with televisions, cash, cellphones, a microwave and other valuables. A Berea trauma debriefer attended the scene to assist the victims.
