A rapid response by Durban Central police resulted in the arrest of three suspects shortly after they allegedly assaulted and robbed two European tourists along the Beachfront on Friday night, 6 June 2025.
According to authorities, the incident occurred near the fishing pier, where the victims were robbed of a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money. Police were alerted after reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers were informed that two suspects had assaulted the tourists before fleeing the scene.
Acting on the victims’ descriptions, law enforcement swiftly apprehended two suspects, who were positively identified. One of them was found in possession of the stolen cellphone. Through precise intelligence, police also arrested a third suspect—an e-hailing driver whose vehicle was allegedly intended to aid the suspects’ escape.
The suspects are currently in custody and will appear in court once processing is complete. Authorities have commended the swift response, which prevented the perpetrators from evading justice.
Police have urged tourists and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring public safety in high-traffic areas like the Beachfront.
