Suspected fruit thief brutally assaulted by 10 men, Redcliffe

Ten indian males are being sought for the attempted murder of a man accused of stealing a jackfruit in Redcliffe, Verulam on Sunday afternoon, 16 September 2018, at 16:30.

Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the Oakford Road at approx 13:00 on Monday, 17 september 2018, after a passerby found a man with a broken leg lying in a bush alongside a dirt road.

Reaction Officers interviewed the 24 year old male who explained that he was accosted by approx ten men in a silver Isuzu bakkie. According to the injured man, the occupants of the bakkie blamed him for the theft of a jackfruit from a local farmhouse.

They then assaulted him with knobkerries and metal pipes breaking his right leg. They then dumped him in the bush and fled.

The victim lay in the bush for approx 20 hours until he was found.

Reaction Officers contacted Paramedics to assist the injured man and the handed the scene over to the South African Police.
