Suspect wanted for the Solik couple’s murders

Nottingham SAPS is appealing for assistance from the community in locating Xolani Brian Ndlovu (32). The suspect is wanted for two counts of murder, house robbery, kidnapping and theft of motor vehicle that he committed at Nottingham Road. His place of residence is unknown but he is usually seen at Umlazi C and F section; Mpophomeni; Mafakatini and France, Pietermaritzburg. He is 1.75 metres in height, fair in complexion and well built.

On 17 February 2017 at 13:00, Nottingham Road police received a report of a couple missing from one of the Estates in the area. A concerned neighbour went to investigate and observed that the house was in a state of disarray. When police arrived on the scene they discovered bloodstains in the house and began investigating a case of kidnapping and robbery. On 17 February 2017 at 10:00, a passer-by spotted the body of Christine Solik (57) in a river at Nzinga, Impendle. The victim’s vehicle, a Hyundai IX 35 was found abandoned at KwaMadlala area, Taylors Halt. On Monday 20 February 2017, the Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue Dive Unit were summoned to Impendle to search for the body of the remaining victim. The search continued in the Inzinga River and approximately three kilometres downstream the body of Roger Solik (66) was found in the middle of the river.

One of the suspects, Thulani Moses Mthembu, 43, who was arrested for the murders appeared at the Howick Magistrates Court on 13 March 2017 and was remanded into custody until 22 March 2017 for bail application.
