Suspect shot twice by security officer in Esenembe

An armed suspect was shot twice by a Reaction Unit South Africa security officer in Esenembe, Kwazulu-Natal after he attacked a Reaction Officer who was arresting him.

Reaction Officer Sifiso Sithole opened fire on the suspect when he noticed that 2 suspects drew knives and attempt to stab a second Reaction Officer who was arresting them for theft of Vodacom cables to the value of R250 000.

RUSA Officers received information that 3 suspects belonging to a syndicate that operated from Mandeni in Kwazulu-Natal had cut Vodacom cables from a mast situated on a farm in Esnemebe. Information received that a truck was on route from Mandeni to pick up the stolen cables and 3 suspects who were in the area since 21:00 yesterday.

The Reaction Officers patrolled the area and came face to face with the suspects who drew knives an attacked the RUSA Members. Reaction Officer Sithole who was providing back up opened fire on the suspect and shot him twice when he realized that his colleagues life was in danger. A second suspect was arrested nearby. A third suspect managed to escape.

Reaction Officers then recovered the stolen cables, two weapons and equipment used by the suspects.
