South African Police Service

On 9 October 2020, at 04:00, the Isipingo Trio Crime Task Team were conducting patrols in the Malukazi area in Isipingo when they spotted a bakkie with three occupants travelling on the road with the blood coming from the back. They tried to stop the vehicle but it sped off. A chase ensued and when they reached South Spinal Road, three men alighted from the vehicle and there was a shootout.

A suspect believed to be in his forties died at the scene while the other two managed to flee. A firearm with its serial number filed off was found at the crime scene. When police inspected the vehicle, they discovered the carcass of the cow. A preliminary investigation that was conducted at the scene revealed that the vehicle was stolen in the Brighton Beach policing area in August this year.

Cases of attempted murder, possession of firearm and possession of suspected stolen property were opened at Isipingo police station. An investigation to determine the circumstances around the carcass is continuing as well as the search of the suspects who fled.

The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya commended police for their vigilance.
