Firearm operations are still on going in the KZN province to eliminate the proliferation of illegal firearms. Many people are losing their lives and others are left with serious injuries due to illegal possession of firearms.

In the early hours of 3 February 2021, the Emanguzi Intervention Deployment embarked on an operation at Gwaleni and Mombeni area in the Ingwavuma policing precinct. The team went to Gwaleni area where two home-made shotguns were found abandoned at a homestead.

They proceeded to a second homestead in Mombeni area where a 34-year-old suspect was found in possession of two homemade shotguns, a pistol and 19 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspect is appearing before the Ingwavuma Magistrates’ Court later today.
