The body of a man was discovered by a herdsman in Oakford near Ndwedwe, KZN on Thursday 20 February 2020.

At approximately 12:46 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after the herdsman discovered the body in the overgrown grass. On arrival Reaction Officers found two rocks and a bamboo stick covered with blood next to the body. His cellphone was recovered several hundred meters away from where his body was discovered.

According to some residents the deceased is a suspected car thief who was seen driving a Toyota Hilux bakkie which was being pursued by at least seven vehicles on Oakford Road. The occupants of the pursuing vehicles were firing shots at the bakkie which veered off the road.

The suspect then allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled through the bush while being pursued by several men who continued firing at him. The deceased was allegedly cornered and beaten to death with a bamboo stick and boulders. Other residents claimed that the deceased was innocent and was murdered and robbed of his vehicle by criminals.

Neither version could be verified as investigations into the murder are underway.
