On Friday night, 30 August 2019, Bongani Ndaba (40) was walking along V Section in Wembezi when he met four men who were leaving a local tavern. It is alleged that he became embroiled in an argument with one of the men and he assaulted the man on the forehead with a firearm. It is also alleged that he shot and wounded a second man on his forearm.

Ndaba was then attacked by the community who severely assaulted him. He was able to crawl to a nearby house for assistance. He was rushed to a clinic where he succumbed to his injuries. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at the Wembezi police station for further investigation.

Wembezi detectives worked around the clock after responding to the murderer report and their hard work paid off as they arrested three suspects within 24 hours after the incident was reported. A firearm that is suspected to have been taken from the deceased was also recovered.

The arrested suspects aged 18 and 33, will appear in the Estcourt Magistrates Court.
