Suspect arrested in Port Shepstone for murder and armed robbery

Hawks members in Port Shepstone assisted by Tactical Response Team and Public Order Policing arrested six suspects aged between 18 and 22 for murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and theft of motor vehicle.

On Wednesday, 30 November at about 20:30 two off-duty policemen stationed at Msinsini Police Station were accosted by the suspects at a gunpoint while they were in their place of residence at Makhoso area in Mthwalume.

The suspects robbed them of their service pistols and six cell phones. In the process they shot and killed Constable Siyabonga Mbele (28). They then took his vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was later recovered at Umlazi area the following day.

The arrested suspects are due to appear in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 December.
