On Friday, 24 February 2017 detectives from the Pinetown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual offences (FCS) Unit arrested a 21-year-old suspect for alleged rape at Gugu Dlamini Park in Durban.

The detectives were investigating a case of rape which was reported at Hillcrest Police Station. It is alleged that at KwaNgcolosi, boys were playing outside the house when the suspect called one of the boys (8 years old) inside the house and sent the other three to go buy an airtime voucher. The boys returned with the airtime voucher and gave it to the suspect, who in turn took it and closed the door. The eight-year-old was still inside the house with him. Later on, as the boys who were playing outside were about to leave they called the boy inside the house, he came out and they all left.

A few days later the suspect allegedly called another boy but the boy did not go to him. The mother questioned the boy as to why he did not go to the suspect when he was asked to. The boy informed her that the last time he was with the suspect, he kissed him. The boy further told his mother about the deeds the suspect allegedly committed with other boys. The mother was shocked by her son’s utterances and approached the mother of the boy which her son alleges the suspect also sexually assaulted. When the mother of the eight year old was informed she immediately opened a case at the Hillcrest Police Station. The case docket was referred to the Pinetown FCS Unit for investigation.
