A joint operation by the Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation team and Hluhluwe Visible Policing yielded positive results when they arrested Siqiniseko Mabuza (28) for Contravention of Counterfeit Goods Act.

On Tuesday, 26 May 2020 the Hawks members received information about a vehicle which was transporting cigarettes from the Mozambique border to Durban. A sting operation was swiftly conducted and the said vehicle was intercepted at Hluhluwe area.

Upon searching the vehicle, members found and seized eighteen (18) boxes filled with cigarettes with a street value of around R220 000.

Mabuza was immediately placed under arrest and charged accordingly. He appeared in the Hluhluwe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody. He is expected to appear again in the same court on 2 June 2020 for a formal bail application.
