Success in Glenmore Blue Zone: Wanted Housebreaking Suspect Arrested

A suspect, wanted for various housebreakings in the Umbilo area, was successfully apprehended in the early hours of Friday morning by Blue Security armed response officers.

“The arrest followed alert officers on patrol in the Glenmore Blue Zone, when they recogonised two men on the street who were linked to multiple recent incidents of trespassing and housebreakings in the neighbourhood,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

“The officers immediately called for backup when they recognized the men and proceeded to apprehend them. When cornered, the one suspect lunged at one of our response officers in an effort to reach his firearm,” Mathios said.

“The officer reacted during the struggle that ensued and fired a shot in the direction of the assailant, who was trying to disarm him. With backup on the scene, the suspect was successfully placed in custody and handed over to Umbilo SAPS for further processing,” said Mathios.

The second suspect managed to get away.

“Big thanks must go to Blue Security for making this important arrest and removing the suspect from the neighbourhood,” Mathios said.

This crucial arrest follows the launch of a second dedicated vehicle in the Glenmore Blue Zone earlier this year. “Blue Zones each have a dedicated vehicle that patrols the designated footprint 24 hours a day. These vehicles have resulted in a solid track record of significantly minimised crime within the communities they service,” Mathios said. ” A combination of high visibility patrolling from the dedicated vehicle, personalised community and vehicle signage, and the proactive nature of a dedicated service proves that community policing works. Operating within a dedicated footprint, the armed response officers get to know the area, monitor who should and should not be there, and, when in need, the vehicle ensures that project clients receive exceptional response times, in some cases within seconds.”
